Suggested Wardrobe and Event Description

  • Events get progressively more formal throughout Recruitment Week.

  • No purses are carried during Recruitment Week. However, each potential new member is given a ziplock bag to keep additional items in. These bags are given to Recruitment Counselors prior to each event and returned after each event is over.

  • Many potential new members choose to change into flip flops when going from one house to another.

  • Convocations

Convocations are mandatory meetings for all potential new members. This is the time when you receive your invitations and event schedules for the current round of events. All convocations are casual and do not involve any sorority women, other than the Rho Chis. However, for some it will be easier to dress for the recruitment events prior to the convocation due to time limitations.

  • Open House
    (14 events, 1 day)

Event Description: This round of events is focused on the importance and excitement of "Going Greek"! Each potential new member will visit all 14 chapter houses for 20 minutes each. You will attend these events with your recruitment group and Recruitment Counselors as you walk as a group from house to house.

Attire: Each potential new member will receive a white recruitment t-shirt to wear for Open House. Khaki shorts are suggested, as well as tennis shoes.

  • Period 1-
    Philanthropy Day

    (5 events x 2 days = 10 events total)

Event Description: This round of events is focused on community service. There are eight events that are 45 minutes each. At each chapter you visit, you will participate in a small project that will benefit the chapter's local or national philanthropy. In addition, chapters may choose to entertain you with a few songs or provide information about their philanthropy and other chapter events.

Attire: Most potential new members wear sundresses or skirts appropriate for daytime events.

  • Period 2- Skit Night
    (5 events, 1 evening)

Event Description: This round of events is focused on entertainment. There are five events that are 45 minutes each. Each chapter will perform a skit set around a theme which should showcase their personality and values. Each chapter should also allow plenty of time for one-on-one conversations.

Attire: Dress appropriately for a luncheon, tea, or ceremony.

  • Period 3- Preference Night
    (3 events, 1 evening)

Event Description: A potential new member may attend up to three events for one hour each. These events focus on the deepest aspects of sorority life, including sisterhood, friendship and ritual. This is your last chance to interact with chapter members.

Attire: A black cocktail dress is recommended.

  • Bid Day

All potential new members will gather at a location on campus to receive their sorority bid. You will then be invited back to the house of the sorority you have joined to participate in fun activities such as pictures, dinner, and "get-to-know-you games". Activities differ from chapter to chapter.

Attire: Same as Period 2. Many chapters will take you to your residence to change into more comfortable attire once pictures etc. are finished.
